This volume gathers papers from a 2005 symposium in honor of David Gordon Mitten, George M. A. Hanfmann Curator of Ancient Art, Emeritus, at the Harvard Art Museum.

Its nine essays by students and colleagues focus on objects that Mitten collected during his thirty-year tenure at the museum and, as Harvard's James Loeb Professor of Classical Art and Archaeology, used for his inspired statuette of the late Bronze Age; a puzzling reconstructed Roman marble statue of a boy, second century AD an Etruscan amphora depicting the ambush of Troilus; and a faience aryballos (oil container) in the shape of a hedgehog. Some of the objects have never been published before, and others are presented with new research and interpretation.
